We are at 12 days since DH left and I am still trying to find my balance. Normally I am able to jump right into a routine, but I think the kids' birthdays coupled with some stuff for my volunteer job have hindered my progress! I hope by mid-March I am back in full swing!
My DS has a birthday party to attend today so I was forced to make time to ink some rubbah last night. Believe me, it was a welcome retreat! I am up to my eyeballs in a 501(c) application process...has anyone ever done one of these before? I swear, for almost every question on the 28 page document, you have to provide a narrative description. All I have left to complete are the budgets. Yes, I am procrastinating! I do have to complete it by Monday though...so I better get on it.
So, here is my diversion. I used SCS Sketch 185 for my inspiration. I decided to use only black, white and really rust. I tried to add in more colors but it just took away from the whole basketball effect, IMO. I used the linen BG stamp on the really rust to make it look like the texture of a basketball.
Stamps: Sporting Goods, Linen, Short & Sweet
Paper: PTI White, Basic Black, Really Rust
Ink: Really Rust, Nick Bantock Lamp Black, Copics (E08, E07, 0)
Accessories: Gunmetal Eyelets (Making Memories)
I showed it to my son this AM, all proud of my work, thinking a 9 year old would LOVE it! You know what he said to me? "Yeah Mom, it looks good. It would look better if you added something in the right corner under the basketballs...like a soccer ball. You know, he likes soccer more than basketball".
Thanks! And no, dear child of mine, I will NOT add a soccer ball! It doesn't go with my theme. So there! Ppppffffttt!

This is a GREAY CARD! I love the color combo and the layout is amazing! I just love everything about this card!
I know the feeling, my hubby is out right now...that's when it all breaks down, right? LOL
My dd is just like that...gee mom you should add something here...there...do it like this...
I like your card...just as it is.
This looks cool!! I love the black and white and rust color scheme.
Great card. you did great making the basketball looking like it was flowing into the basket. Aren't kids a hoot? So honest, the little brats, lol.
That is a sweet story, no, you're right, a soccer ball will not fit! And I like the theme and the layout, great job!
I think its a wonderful card! I like the motion of the basketball and really like how you kept it to just those colors - its perfect that way.
Very cute card even if it doesn't have a soccer ball(Just kidding)hope your week starts out great, keep you chin up...
I like how you stamped the ball to make it look like it was coming towards you - even if it isn't a soccer ball :)
Great job, love the way you stamped the basketball to show the movement of the ball. I wouldn't have added a thing either!
Great card! Love the colors you used. I love the basketball theme and your saying goes well
Ugh - kids :) Never understand perfection when it's right in front of them. Love the effect of shooting a basket on your card!
Those first couple of weeks are hard - and I used to find the last couple of weeks equally hard. Just keep making great cards like this one (what do 9 year olds know anyway??) to help the time fly.
Ahhh kids. Sounds like them....lol. I think it looks great and he does too I am sure. I am glad that stamping helps you regroup. It does for me too.
Awesome card, very masculine, love it.
This is really great! The colors are perfect for the basketball theme. I love how you stamped it to show the movement of the ball.
Your card is perfect and I love that your DS had some suggestions!! I love how you gave the card some motion with the basketballs going in the hoops! Beautiful!! Always on the lookout for inspiring boy cards!!! Thanks for the inspriation!!!!
Best wishes,
Sankari :)

This is an awesome card! Great for a boy's birthday card!
This is a really cool card! Great job!
I love it! My son played basketball this year... gave me some great ideas!
Hope you are feeling better, honey!
Great card for a guy! He will love it!
Wow, Siobhan, you're my hero! That's a long time to be doing everything without your husband! Keep up the great work, you're very strong. Fabulous card! I love the way you stamped the basketballs! It's such a bummer when you show someone a card you're crazy about and their response is flat! But, to him it was all about your choice of sport, not the talent & technique put into it... kids!
This is an awesome card. Cute story too. Got to love them kids..
Hugs are being sent your way...with DH out and the illness.
And now, your son wants to add soccer balls that handsome card??? I do not think so!
You did a beautiful job!
Hugs,
Jen
Hehehe, love the story about your sons response! I think it looks great!
I love how you did the basketballs in varying intensities! It looks so great.
