Sporty Birthday

We are at 12 days since DH left and I am still trying to find my balance. Normally I am able to jump right into a routine, but I think the kids' birthdays coupled with some stuff for my volunteer job have hindered my progress! I hope by mid-March I am back in full swing!

My DS has a birthday party to attend today so I was forced to make time to ink some rubbah last night. Believe me, it was a welcome retreat! I am up to my eyeballs in a 501(c) application process...has anyone ever done one of these before? I swear, for almost every question on the 28 page document, you have to provide a narrative description. All I have left to complete are the budgets. Yes, I am procrastinating! I do have to complete it by Monday though...so I better get on it.

So, here is my diversion. I used SCS Sketch 185 for my inspiration. I decided to use only black, white and really rust. I tried to add in more colors but it just took away from the whole basketball effect, IMO. I used the linen BG stamp on the really rust to make it look like the texture of a basketball.

Stamps: Sporting Goods, Linen, Short & Sweet
Paper: PTI White, Basic Black, Really Rust
Ink: Really Rust, Nick Bantock Lamp Black, Copics (E08, E07, 0)
Accessories: Gunmetal Eyelets (Making Memories)

I showed it to my son this AM, all proud of my work, thinking a 9 year old would LOVE it! You know what he said to me? "Yeah Mom, it looks good. It would look better if you added something in the right corner under the basketballs...like a soccer ball. You know, he likes soccer more than basketball".

Thanks! And no, dear child of mine, I will NOT add a soccer ball! It doesn't go with my theme. So there! Ppppffffttt!

Great card. you did great making the basketball looking like it was flowing into the basket. Aren't kids a hoot? So honest, the little brats, lol.

That is a sweet story, no, you're right, a soccer ball will not fit! And I like the theme and the layout, great job!

I like how you stamped the ball to make it look like it was coming towards you - even if it isn't a soccer ball :)

Ugh - kids :) Never understand perfection when it's right in front of them. Love the effect of shooting a basket on your card!

Those first couple of weeks are hard - and I used to find the last couple of weeks equally hard. Just keep making great cards like this one (what do 9 year olds know anyway??) to help the time fly.

Wow, Siobhan, you're my hero! That's a long time to be doing everything without your husband! Keep up the great work, you're very strong. Fabulous card! I love the way you stamped the basketballs! It's such a bummer when you show someone a card you're crazy about and their response is flat! But, to him it was all about your choice of sport, not the talent & technique put into it... kids!
