Laura's "What's Your Sign, Baby" Challenge

One of my Pen Pal's from SCS posted a challenge, a very creative one at that! Apparently, she was watching Project Runway and was inspired! So, without further adieu, here were our guidelines:

You need to make a card according to the colors(C) and/or metal (M) from your astrological sign. (Now, there are several different interpretations - go by the list here...)
  • Sagittarius 11/22-12/21 purple, red (C) tin (M)

  • Capricorn 12/22-1/19 brown, earthy colors (C) tin (M)

  • Aquarius 1/20-2/18 electric blue, psychodelic (C) aluminum (M)

  • Pisces 2/19-3/20 turquoise blue, sea green (C) platinum (M)

  • Aries 3/21-4/19 red, black, white (C) iron (M)

  • Taurus 4/20-5/20 pastels, blue (C) copper (M)

  • Gemini 5/21-6/20 silver, orange (C) quicksilver (M)

  • Cancer 6/21-7/22 pearl, lavender, silver (C) silver (M)

  • Leo 7/23-8/22 golden yellow, orange (C) gold (M)

  • Virgo 8/23-9/22 indigo, green, grey (C) nickel (M)

  • Libra 9/23-10/22 blue, pink (C) copper (M)

  • Scorpio 10/23-11/21 dark red (C) iron, steel (M)
Deets: Make a card using only the colors and/or color of the metal from your sign. You may also use a neutral color (white/ivory/kraft).

This is what I came up with:

This was a tough challenge for me, because I had a difficult time with the copper!

For my layout, I turned another card I did recently upside down and decided to keep it simple. I am always drawn to simple lines and one layer cards, but never think I can pull them off. (BTW, the paperclip on the right side is not part of the card; just needed it to hold the card together!)

Apparently by making this card, it made some sort of call to the heavens for snow, because we subsequently were blessed with 3.6 inches on one day, then 3 inches on the next. I am NOT ready for winter! NOT! NOT! NOT!
At least today it is raining, which will kill off the rest of the snow...:) No more snowman cards for a while...

Stamps: Holiday Woodcuts, Best Yet
Paper: River Rock, Baja Breeze, Pink Pirouette, Copper, Whisper White
Ink: Versamark, River Rock, Copics to color, Copper Gel Pen

Pen Pal Challenge #3

Just in case I have not previously addressed this, I am in a rather large Pen Pal group on SplitCoast. We were the brain child of Lana (Kota48) and quickly grew from a few people to over 120 when we closed off to new members. It is a fabulous group, full of very talented ladies, who have turned into dear friends! I am truly blessed to be part of such a great group!

At any rate, we decided to do some challenges. Challenge #3 was Bonnie's choice. Since Bonnie had a little issue with mice in her attic, she chose to have us make cards with House Mouse images (or critters if you don't have any HM stamps). As a side note, you will be thrilled to know that Bonnie hired an exterminator and the mice are now gone. :)

Being that I needed some additional birthday cards, I picked this stamp. Since rediscovering vellum for the swap cards I made, I opted to use it again, stamping the sentiment in white. (How long does it take white craft ink to dry? I even heat set it and let it sit for an hour...still smeared. Ugh!) Maybe it would have looked better had I used a solid background? I just thought this DSP was perfect for a birthday card...and it was sitting in my scrap pile just waiting to be used!

Stamps: House Mouse Make a Wish, SU Heard from the Heart
Paper: PTI White, watercolor paper, Kiwi Kiss, Red Riding Hood Red, unknown DSP, vellum
Ink: Palette Noir, SU White Craft, Prisma's and Baby Oil
Accessories: Stickles, silver brads

Thanks for looking!

Another Asian Creation

I have been a card making fool lately! It is almost surprising I have not been threatened with divorce for the amount of time I have been at my craft table this week! LOL In all seriousness, my back kind of hurts from sitting in my chair so much! Ahh...what we must sacrifice!

So, this is my latest...I made it for my DH's grandparents as it was (eek! late again!!) their anniversary at the end of August. In addition, it fit the bill for a challenge my Pen Pal group is doing! Julie challenged us to make a card with our favorite set! I love Asian cards, so I chose Oriental Paintings. I had not used this stamp previously, so it was fun to try something new as well.

It is inspired by SCS's SC160 which I had been wanting to try for a while now. I started out with just versamark on the red background, but liked the contrast of the black in the end. DH said it looked a little busy with the black ink, but I thought it tied all the colors together. What do you think??

Stamps: SU Oriental Paintings, Asian Poetry BG
Ink: Palette Noir, Copics (G17, G14, R46, Y02, and 0)
Paper: all SU: Naturals Ivory, Basic Black, Brushed Gold, Real Red
Embellishments: Gold eyelets
Tools: Crop-a-dile, Score-Pal

Hope you enjoyed your long weekend!!

Carol's Pen Pal Challenge

The Challenge: Use a stamp set that has never seen ink.
This was a blast to create! I knew I wanted to use this set, so I took a look around SCS to see what others had done. The repetition stamping was an idea I obtained from other's work. I love how the horse looks with it!
Stamps: SU Wanted, Weathered
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Versamark
Paper: Kraft, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Outlaw (all SU)
Embellishments: Hemp Twine, We R Memory Keepers Snap
Tools: Score-Pal, Crop-A-Dile, Mini-Glue Dots
